Application Deadline Advice

For the Winter 2023 Intake (program start date): applications are open on February 7, 2022 at 9:00 AM and close on February 9, 2022 at 4:00 PM. 

Application time-frame is normally very short for the Bachelor of Science Nursing (i.e. application window is approximately 3 days only). Verify application dates and deadline directly with Douglas College.

1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade)

1. Completion of the following 30 credits at undergraduate-level (C+ or 2.67 CGPA per course):

  • BIOL 1103, BIOL 1203, BIOL 2200, and BIOL 2401
  • ENGL 1130 and one university-transferable ENGL elective course
  • MATH 1160 or PSYC 2300
  • 3 credit university-transferable Social Science/Humanities elective
  • 6 credits university-transferable electives
Note:
  • A maximum of 2 courses from the following list may be repeated:
    • BIOL 1103, BIOL 1203, BIOL 2200, and BIOL 2401
    • ENGL 1130
    • one university-transferable ENGL elective course
    • MATH 1160, PSYC 2300
  • A withdrawal ('W' notation is considered an attempt)
  • All attempts in these required courses, including those taken at other post-secondary institutions, will be included in calculating the applicant's GPA, and reviewed to ensure course repeats do not exceed the limitations

Non-Academic

  • Upon acceptance into the 2nd year of the BSN program, you are required to:
    • Attend a mandatory program orientation
    • Attend an interview (may be required) for the purposes of providing information and academic counselling
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate (current within 1 year of the start date of the program). Standard First Aid Certificates that include Basic Life Support within 1 year of the date of application are also accepted
    • Standard First Aid Certificate (current within 3 years of the start date of the program).
    • Satisfactory health assessment completed by a physician or nurse practitioner 
    • Current record of recommended immunizations
    • Criminal Record Search - details will be provided at the time the applicant is offered admission to the program.
    • Respiratory mask fit-test (N95)

Admission Advice

1. Those students who complete Douglas College's Academic Foundations for Potential Nursing Applicants (AFNURS) program and meet all the Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) admission requirements will receive priority admission to the BSN. Students who are offered a seat in the AFNURS program are not guaranteed admission to the BSN program. 

2. Enrollment to this Program is limited. Meeting the minimum admission requirements for BSN does not guarantee admission to the BSN program. 

3. If you are taking the admission prerequisite courses at another post-secondary institution in BC, you may use BC Transfer Guide to search course transferability and equivalency.  

4. Students are accepted to the BSN program on a first qualified, first admitted basis.  Students may apply to the BSN program for the Fall or Winter semester following completion of the required 30 credits listed above. In the event where students qualify for admission at the same time, but there are fewer program seats available than demand dictates, offers will be given to those students with a higher GPA on the required courses for admission to BSN.

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

You are eligible for enrollment at Douglas College if you meet the General Admission Requirements along with the specific admission requirements of your intended program. The program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program profile for Douglas College in EducationPlannerBC's Program Search Database.

General Admission Requirements

1. One of:

  • BC secondary school graduation (or the equivalent in another school system)
  • One course short of BC secondary school graduation
  • 19 years old by the end of the first month of the first semester of attendance
  • 17 years old on the first day of the first semester of attendance and has not been in school for at least one year
  • Completion of a certificate or equivalent from a special needs program and has been in school for 12 years

2. English

One of:

Please refer to Douglas College's Transfer Credit web page. The transfer credit evaluation process involves a form, a fee, and sealed, official transcripts.

Transfer credit is not done automatically. Students are responsible for initiating the transfer credit process. To receive transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript with your Application for Admission or Readmission along with a Transfer Credit Request form. A detailed course description may also be required before credit can be evaluated.

You are strongly recommended to request transfer credit at least four months in advance of your first semester of attendance. Requests for evaluation of credit received after this time may not be processed in time.

Out-of-Province Transfer Student
