1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade)/Non-Academic
1. Online application form
2. One of:

  • A letter of Application Assessment from BCCNM (British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives) which specifies the supplementary education that is required
  • Verification of current annual RN licensure in Canada
3. Official transcripts sent directly from the educational institution where you completed nursing program to TRU
4. Completed and signed Request for Canadian Employment and Role Verification form
5. Documented evidence of RN practice/employment history (resume)
6. Documented evidence of current employment as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or a health care assistant (HCA) in a care facility or hospital in the Canadian health care system with a minimum of 1600 hours worked
7. Completed and Signed Requisite Skills and Abilities form

8. An assessment interview with the program and course Lead (after submitting online application and all admission-required documents) 


Admission Advice
1. If accepted into the program, the following will be required:

  • Criminal record check (upon acceptance into the program)
  • Up-to-date immunization records (upon acceptance into the program)
  • A current Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate 
  • A current CPR Level C or CPR-HCP (Health Care Provider) certificate 

2. Details of admission requirements for both Canadian nurse and international nurse admission categories can be found on the program website.

3. Applying to the program does not guarantee admission, as program suitability is assessed on an individual basis.

English Language Requirements

English proficiency equivalent to English 12 or higher is required for post-secondary level courses at TRU-Open Learning. It is students' responsibility to determine if you have English language proficiency suitable to the course or program you would like to take at TRU-Open Learning.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

Out-of-Province

BC Transfer Student

If you have completed some post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your program at TRU-Open Learning. The BC Transfer Guide allows you to check on the transferability of your courses taken at another BC post-secondary institution. Out-of-Province Transfer Student
