1) Program Admission Requirements

Admission for BC High School graduates:

Academic:

1. Completion of the following courses:

Grade 11 Courses

Grade 12 courses

 

Non-Academic

  • submit a resume (an outline of previous theatre training and experiences, as well as non-theatre related volunteer activities, awards, honours, hobbies and interests.)
  • submit an Essay: (maximum 500 words, typed and double-spaced) explaining why you wish to pursue your theatre education at the University of Victoria.
  • submit digital examples of a portfolio (optional) , or any work that you feel may enhance your application.


Admission Advice:

1. All applicants to UVic (regardless of country of origin or citizenship status) are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. You can choose one of several ways to demonstrate language proficiency.

You are not required to provide proof of language proficiency if you have studied full time for at least four years within Canada at the high school and/or post-secondary level, and all of your instruction has been in English.

2. Admission averages are calculated using all required Grade 12 courses for entry to a program. For more details, including admission requirements for all applicant categories, see the UVic admissions site.

3. First time applicants to the University of Victoria will need to submit their application and supporting Theatre application documents using the online UVic applicaton system.

Current or returning students will need to apply to the Theatre program through My UVic Application using the pre-existing NetLink ID and passphrase, and submit the supporting Theatre application documents here.

2) Institution Admission Requirements

Applicants also have to satisfy UVic's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum scores):

  • 86% on the BC English 12 provincial exam within the last three years
  • 86% in English 12 in another Canadian province within the last three years
  • Level 6 on the Language Proficiency Index (LPI)
  • A score of 4 on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition
  • A score of 4 on IB Higher Level English
  • 1.5 units of transferable university level English credits
  • A degree from an accredited English speaking university

If you do not meet one of these requirements, you must write the Language Proficiency Index to determine placement in an appropriate English course
