To work as a hot air balloon pilot in BC, you must complete ground school, practical experience, and be licensed by Transport Canada.

To work as a tour or travel guide in B.C., you may need to have basic first aid and CPR certification. Eligibility is achieved by completing a relevant course.

Outdoor sport and recreational guides

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to work as an educator, instructor or facilitator in parks, recreational facilities, camps and other outdoor settings. These programs include courses in leadership skills, wilderness survival skills, first aid, group processes, counselling techniques, environmental studies and instruction in recreational activities such as rock climbing, ropes courses, backpacking, kayaking and canoeing.

Outdoor sport and recreational guides organize and conduct trips or expeditions for sports enthusiasts, adventurers, tourists and resort guests. They are employed by private companies and resorts or may be self-employed.

In the Mountain Adventure Skills Training Certificate, you will be introduced to a broad range of skills, industry certifications, and technical knowledge through cohort-based learning, projects, field trips, and numerous outdoor field courses, spending approximately 60% of your time outside engaged in experiential learning. Prepare for employment in the field of Adventure or Adventure Tourism or continue studies toward a university degree.

Mountain Adventure Skills Training Certificate

The Adventure Guiding Certificate provides a comprehensive view of the adventure guiding industry with a focus on sustainability, law and ethics, and cross-cultural skills. Students will combine classroom learning with practical outdoor training experiences. 

Adventure Guiding Certificate (NIC)

The Adventure Guide Certificate allows you to explore a career in adventure-related fields. This program combines classroom instruction with courses in wilderness travel, canoeing, rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater kayaking and more. Your Adventure Guide Certificate credits count towards completion of an Adventure Guide Diploma or degree concentration.
