This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to use computer applications and related visual and sound imaging techniques to manipulate images and information originating as film, video, still photographs, digital copy, soundtracks, and physical objects in order to communicate messages simulating real-world content. These programs include courses in specialized camerawork and equipment operation and maintenance, image capture, computer programming, dubbing, CAD applications, and applications to specific commercial, industrial, and entertainment needs.

Animation Diplomas

Graphic arts technicians assist in conceptualizing a project, interpreting design specifications or sketches, preparing the page make-up, lay-out and lettering, and preparing production materials for press, electronic or multimedia publishing. They are employed by publishing, communications, advertising, marketing, printing and multimedia establishments, and by television and film production companies. They may also be self-employed.

The 3D Modeling, Art and Animation Diploma focuses on the essential skills to enter the game, film, and television industries as a 3D Artist. You will get hands on experience with the entire 3D workflow including modeling, animating, texturing, rigging, lighting, rendering, and compositing. You will be trained by working industry professionals from the game, film, and television industries providing methods and techniques. In the last term, you will apply all of these learned skills, alongside direction and feedback from your instructors, to produce a demo reel to get you a job.

3D Modeling, Art & Animation: Diploma

The 2D Animation & Visual Development Diploma is a full-time two-year career program that focuses on drawing, design and classical animation skills. In the program, you'll study historical and current techniques of the animation industry to boost your skills in design elements, form, timing, character  design and industry principles. Taught by industry professionals, the animation courses at CapU will help you develop a portfolio of your work to show to future employers. Upon graduation, you'll have the skillset to start a career working in Vancouver's TV and film production fields.

2D Animation and Visual Development Diploma

The two-year 3D Animation for Film & Games Diploma gives you the skills to bring 3D computer-generated characters and environments to life. You'll start your 3D animation schooling by learning the key techniques of 3D and animation software, receiving coaching from instructors and industry professionals. Throughout your coursework, you’ll learn how to create and animate with industry-standard software to make sure you’re set for a career in television, film or game development. You'll also take courses in life drawing, concept art, animation technique, technical direction, rigging, production techniques and entrepreneurship.

3D Animation for Film and Games Diploma

The Advanced 3D Animation and 3D Modelling focuses on the fundamentals of 3D Animation and 3D Modelling. You will study various department specializations, such as 3D animation (character and creature), rigging, 3D modelling and sculpting, and texturing and surfacing. The program also touches on the fundamentals of storytelling through acting and visual composition, look development and the basics compositing. The program also teaches students the fundamentals of pre- and postproduction, critical analysis and review, realistic production schedules, team work, soft skills and how to interact with other departments within the postproduction pipeline. A wide range of industry standard software and tools, processes, and workflows are taught to the students. You will create and compile a portfolio of shots or still life images in the form of a demo reel.

Advanced 3D Animation and 3D Modelling Diploma

The Animation Diploma focuses on drawing, design and the principles and techniques of traditional and digital character animation. There is an optional Co-op work term offered between year 1 and year 2 of the program. Core courses include 2D, digital 2D and 3D animation, life drawing, character design, storyboard and layout design. Animation history, communications and an introduction to business functions are also studied.
By the time you've graduated, you'll have completed a professional quality, industry-focused demo reel showcasing your design and digital animation skills.
