This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of architects, engineers and planners engaged in designing and developing buildings, urban complexes, and related systems. These programs include courses in design testing procedures, building site analysis, model building and computer graphics, engineering drawing, structural systems testing, analysis of prototype mechanical and interior systems, test equipment operation and maintenance, and report preparation.

Architectural engineering technology/technician

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply technical skills and advanced computer software and hardware to the creation of graphic representations and simulations in support of engineering projects. These programs include courses in engineering graphics, two-dimensional and three-dimensional engineering design, solids modelling, engineering animation, computer-aided drafting (CAD), computer-aided design (CADD), and auto-CAD techniques.

To work as an architectural technologist or technician in B.C., you must register with the Architectural Institute of B.C. Eligibility is achieved through completion of a combination of education and work experience, including the AIBC Ethics, Act, and Bylaws course, and successful writing of the Architectural Technologist Exam.

The Architectural and Building Technology (ABT) Certificate is designed to provide students with a competency skill level for working in the field of housing and small building design and construction. This program is designed for you if you want to advance in your career or are currently working in design/build offices for homes and small commercial projects, material suppliers and installers, estimating, and real estate marketing, property management and municipal offices. You'll take courses in estimating, construction, architectural planning and drafting, and more. Once you graduate, you may satisfy some of the academic requirements of the ASTTBC, BOABC, and IDIBC.

The Architectural and Structural CADD and Graphics Technician (Architecture Option) Certificate program offers entry-level training for a variety of applications in architecture, building construction and industrial applications. CADD (Computer-Aided Drafting and Design) is an integral part of the drafting program, and you'll learn drafting, computer applications, and graphic presentation with architectural and design skills used in the preparation of architectural projects, and construction of buildings. Once you graduate, you may find entry-level drafting, CADD and graphics positions in architectural firms residential construction companies, or other firms requiring a mix of design and drafting skills.

The Architectural and Structural CADD and Graphics Technician (Structural Option) Certificate offers entry-level training for a variety of applications in architecture, building construction and industrial applications. CADD (Computer-Aided Drafting and Design) is an integral part of the drafting program, and you'll learn drafting and computer applications with design skills to provide specific detailed information on structural building components and the preparation of working drawings, using structural techniques and requirements as they apply to building construction. Once you graduate, you may find entry level drafting,CADD and graphics positions in engineering and architectural officesthat deal with reinforced concrete and structural steel, and steel fabrication companies.

The Building Design and Architectural CAD Associate Certificate is designed to provide you with a competency skill level for working in the field of housing design and presentation graphics. Recommended to individuals who want to advance in their careers or are currently working in home design offices, material suppliers, retail, real estate marketing and municipal offices. You'll take courses in construction, architectural planning, estimating, residential landscape design, architectural CAD rendering, and more. 

Building Design and Architectural CAD: Associate Certificate (Part-time)

The Computer Aided Design Technology Associate Certificate offers you selection of CAD courses ranging from 2D AutoCAD to advanced 3D modeling using applications like Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks. The program is designed for you if you're a draftsperson, technician or individual who is skilled in a technical field who needs to develop their CAD proficiency, or if you require a formalization of their technical abilities in CAD. 

Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technology: Associate Certificate (Part-Time)

The Engineering Graphics Technician Certificate prepares you to have a foundation in, and a working knowledge of graphics software applications used within engineering and architectural design. The program includes a special emphasis in 2D and 3D computer aided design and drafting, as well as design visualization, which includes still image rendering and engineering animation. You'll be exposed to design and documentation standards used within several industry sectors, and you're provided with an introduction to typical engineering and architectural office software. At the end of the program, you will have the option of participating in an internship. During this paid or unpaid work experience you will apply the skills you’ve obtained throughout the program.

The Architectural Drafting Technician Certificate prepares you for drawings of residential and commercial buildings that are used for construction and for obtaining building permits. Along with discussion of architectural practice and design, you will learn about designing for energy efficiency, safety against fire and earthquakes, and cost effectiveness.
