Architectural technologists and technicians may work independently or provide technical assistance to professional architects and civil design engineers in conducting research, preparing drawings, architectural models, specifications and contracts and in supervising construction projects. They are employed by architectural and construction firms, and governments.

Drafting technologists and technicians prepare engineering designs, drawings and related technical information, such as building information models (BIM), in multidisciplinary engineering teams or in support of engineers, architects or industrial designers, or they may work independently. They are employed by consulting and construction companies, utility, resource and manufacturing companies, all levels of government and by a wide range of other establishments.

The Architectural and Building Technology (ABT) Diploma is a comprehensive, two-year diploma program with a focus on applied learning. It combines sound theoretical knowledge with practical skills and technical training to provide job-ready competencies for immediate application upon entering the workforce. You'll learn from industry-based faculty, develop extensive practical skills for rewarding careers, and graduate with an industry recognized credential in the design, development, construction, and building science sectors. You'll follow a fixed curriculum of common courses that includes lectures and practical applications in construction drawing, materials and methods, estimating techniques, building systems, and computer applications. Organized field trips and ‘hands-on’ workshops form part of the curriculum and attendance is required. You're often able to further their education through summer jobs with architects, engineers, developers, and contractors.

The Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) Diploma program is designed to develop and enhance practical skills; increasing students' knowledge for a successful CADD career. This program prepares students for a career as a CADD/Drafting Technician. Using the most advanced CADD software, students will learn to produce drawings from concept sketches, design information, codes and specifications as per industry standards for production by builders and manufacturers.

 The Architectural and Engineering Technology Diploma will deliver a suite of courses in a cohort-based program that will give students exposure to a broad range of disciplines within the construction design industry.  Because students will be exposed to four courses in each of the four core disciplines over the four semesters of the program, important concepts will be reinforced and a sufficient depth of knowledge will be reached, so that upon graduation students will be able to start working in the industry with little or no additional training from their employers.  Additional service courses in Math and Communications will help to round out the students’ education and meet accreditation requirements.

Advance your Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) skills for work in engineering firms, architecture firms, development companies, government, or private industry with the CAD and BIM diploma. During your first year, you will develop skills in Architectural, Civil/Structural, Mechanical or Steel Construction Modelling with Steel Detailing. You will further develop your skills by adding an additional specialty of Architectural, Civil/Structural, Mechanical or Steel Construction Modelling in Steel Detailing in Year 2. This program uses project based learning strategies with in-class instructional presentations, blended online delivery, and laboratory work using Autodesk, Trimble, and other software.
