To practice as a user support technician in B.C., you may choose to register with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia. Eligibility is achieved through completion of an accredited diploma program and 24 months of progressive work experience, 12 of which must be at the technologist profile or higher in a Canadian work environment.

To practice as an information systems testing technician in B.C., you may choose to register with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia. Eligibility is achieved through completion of an accredited diploma program and 24 months of progressive work experience, 12 of which must be at the technologist profile or higher in a Canadian work environment.

To practice as an information systems testing technician, you may choose to register with Canada's Association of Information Technology Professionals. Eligibility is achieved by passing an ethics exam and gaining at least 1,000 hours of IT experience over the preceding twelve months.

Information systems testing technicians

This instructional program class comprises any general program that focuses on computing, computer science, and information science and systems. Such programs are undifferentiated as to title and content and are not to be confused with specific programs in computer science, information science, or related support services.

Computer and information sciences, general

This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the design of technological information systems, including computing systems, as solutions to business and research data and communications support needs. These programs include courses in the principles of computer hardware and software components, algorithms, databases, telecommunications, user tactics, application testing, and human interface design.

Information technology

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to fulfill the requirements set by vendors for professional qualification as certified installation, customization, and maintenance engineers for specific software products and/or processes. Includes training in specific vendor supported software products and their installation and maintenance.

Computer programming, vendor/product certification

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply programming and systems analysis principles to the selection, implementation, and troubleshooting of customized computer and software installations across the life cycle. These programs include courses in computer hardware and software; compilation, composition, execution, and operating systems; low- and high-level languages and language programming; programming and debugging techniques; installation and maintenance testing and documentation; process and data flow analysis; user needs analysis and documentation; cost-benefit analysis; and specification design.

Computer systems analysis/analyst

This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on computer theory, computing problems and solutions, and the design of computer systems and user interfaces from a scientific perspective. These programs include courses in the principles of computational science, computer development and programming; and applications to a variety of end-use situations.

Computer science

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of professionals who use computer systems. These programs include courses in basic computer design and architecture, programming, problems of specific computer applications, component and system maintenance and inspection procedures, hardware and software problem diagnosis and repair, and report preparation.

Computer/computer systems technology/technician

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to generally apply technical skills to create working drawings and computer simulations for a variety of applications. These programs include courses in specification interpretation, dimensioning techniques, drafting calculations, material estimation, technical communications, computer applications, and interpersonal communications.

Drafting and design technology/technician, general

This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the study of strategy, policy, and standards regarding the security of, and operations in, cyberspace. These programs include courses in incident response, information assurance, recovery policies, vulnerability reduction, deterrence, threat reduction, and resiliency.

To work as a computer programmer or interactive media developer in B.C., you may choose to become certified through Canada's Association of Information Technology Professionals. Computer Information Systems Certificates

Computer network technicians establish, operate, maintain and coordinate the use of local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs), mainframe networks, hardware, software and related computer equipment. Web technicians set up and maintain internet, extranet and intranet web sites and web server hardware and software, and monitor and optimize network connectivity and performance. They are employed in information technology units throughout the public and private sectors. Computer network technicians who are supervisors are included in this group.

User support technicians provide first-line technical support to computer users experiencing difficulties with computer hardware and with computer applications and communications software. They are employed by computer hardware manufacturers and retailers, software developers, in call centres and in information technology units throughout the public and private sectors. They are also employed by independent technical support companies or they may be self-employed.

Information systems testing technicians execute test plans to evaluate the performance of software applications and information and telecommunications systems. They are employed in information technology units throughout the private and public sectors.

The Agile Development Associate Certificate include group work, the communication of technical system specifications in writing, and oral presentations in a team environment. You'll receive significant preparation to challenge the Professional Scrum Master, PSM Certification. You'll practice self-organizing within small groups, learning to communicate with each other via incremental and iterative approaches. By the time you graduate, you will also have a computer science foundation in data modelling, business analysis and IT systems design.

Agile Development: Associate Certificate (Part-Time)

The Applied Computer Applications (ACA) Associate Certificate  will give you expert level understanding of using a Windows 10 PC and the most current versions of MS Office. You'll learn how to set-up and configure a Windows 10 PC, manage files on a network, protect data and keep the system updated. After, you'll proceed to MS Word or Excel then PowerPoint, followed by MS Access Fundamentals and then an Introduction to Web Development. After graduation, you may also choose to continue on to the Applied Web Development, AWD Associate Certificate.

Applied Computer Applications (ACA): Associate Certificate (Part-time)

The Applied Computer Information Systems (ACIS) Associate Certificate provides an introduction to most aspects of Information Technology. It is intended for anyone interested in IT foundation skills prior to an advanced credential, or those with other post-secondary education who want a broad introduction to Computing and IT. You will learn more about the Windows personal computer, typical MS Office applications, followed by an introduction to web development and programming concepts.

Applied Computer Information Systems (ACIS): Associate Certificate (Part-Time)

The Computer Systems Certificate (CSC) in Flexible Learning provides foundational skills in software development, mathematics, computer systems, and computer science. Participants are introduced to solving problems by starting with Python, moving to Java, and C programming, along with other entry-level computing and IT skills. You'll work in teams to create databases, and gain hands-on experience with software application development, plus build websites with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. There is a foundation of mathematics and computer architecture, as well as business analysis and systems design, along with soft skills for the workplace, including business and technical reports, interpersonal communication, group work and presentations. After completing the program, you can continue onto the diploma program or find employment. 

Computer Systems: Certificate (Part-time)

In this Computer and Engineering Technician Access Certificate, you'll acquire foundational knowledge and skills in technical communication, algebra, learning skills and problem-solving strategies, and computing concepts. Completion of the program will allow you to enter the Information and Computer Systems Technician or Engineering Graphics Technician programs. 





Computer and Engineering Technician Access Certificate

This introductory Cybersecurity and Network Support Technician Certificate takes a practical career-oriented approach to learning, with emphasis on the installation, repair and maintenance of computers, servers and simple computer networks. You may take an optional co-op or internship term to gain work experience as part of the program. Graduates of this program are prepared to work in a number of roles in the IT industry maintaining systems.





Cybersecurity & Network Support Technician Certificate

The Information and Computer Systems Technology Certificate prepares you for work locally and globally in database design and management, network software design, administration, and operations and maintenance of networks and software. As an Information and Computer Systems student, you have the option to supplement your classroom learning with the completion of up to three paid work terms. After successful completion of these optional work experiences, you'll qualify for either the Co-op or Internship designation when you graduate. This program will provide you with knowledge of operating systems, web development, software engineering, and many different programming languages.

Information and Computer Systems Technician Certificate

The Interactive Media Developer Technician Certificate prepares you to work locally in the world of software development. You'll learn the skills you need to take an idea or a problem and develop it from concept to production. You’ll get the opportunity to write professional documentation, design and implement stories or games, and apply your knowledge to create your own interactive experiences. Optional work terms will complement your coursework with added hands-on experience. Possible careers include junior application or web developer, and junior graphic designer.

Interactive Media Developer (IMD) Technician Certificate

The Computing Science Certificate helps you build your computer literacy, and gain a solid foundation in applied and academic computer programming and computing science. The program includes courses in Python and C++ programming, and using Raspberry Pi. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to work in software development, programming, and information security analysis. 

Computing Science Certificate

This 30-credit certificate program provides graduates with diverse computing knowledge to meet the computer and information system needs of organizations of all sizes. The program is designed to provide graduates with a solid foundation in computer systems and user support, network administration, and systems design. The Computer Information Systems programs (CISY) offer a unique practitioner-oriented approach to systems support and software development. Computer Information Systems courses are offered by the Computer Science and Information Technology department.

Computer Information Systems Certificate

The Foundations in Innovation and Technology Certificate introduces students to a range of technology-based fields in the knowledge-economy, with a specific focus on current opportunities in BC. This modular program offers students insight into the common tools and resources utilised by leading technology-driven industries, while supporting them to develop basic workplace and employment skills. You will gain hands-on experience in the following technology-based career sectors: Administrative Professional, Communication and Digital Marketing, Web Development and Coding, Software Testing, Network Set Up and Support, GIS/GPS Mapping. Upon successful completion of this program, you will have the opportunity to proceed into more advanced curriculum streams, co-ops and ongoing professional development training, facilitated by the First Nations Technology Council alongside industry and educational partners.

Foundations in Innovation and Technology Certificate

The Computing Studies Certificate provides you with an opportunity to understand the fundamentals of computers and programming without necessarily specializing in computing science. You'll take have the option to take courses in This program provides both part-time and full-time students with an opportunity to understand the fundamentals of computers and programming without necessarily specializing in computing science. You'll also have the option to participate in a co-op program. 

Computing Studies Certificate

The Coding Skills associate certificate is open to people with at least two years of computing education. It's designed to boost your existing skills, so you'll need to show a portfolio of your work to be admitted. In the Coding Skills associate certificate, you'll complete five advanced software development courses. You'll tackle subjects such as algorithm design, software engineering, and coding best practices. One of your courses will be a three-credit field practicum experience.

The Computer Information Systems Certificate is about the knowledge and skills to support small companies that rely on single-user systems. Your courses will emphasize practical learning. You'll apply the theories you're learning through hands-on projects in UFV's labs. You'll have the flexibility to choose courses based on your interests. This will prepare you to work in different areas. You could focus on web support, user technical support, or computer support, preparing you for various careers within IT.
