This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to perform the duties of police and public security officers, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic control, crowd control and public relations, witness interviewing, evidence collection and management, basic crime prevention methods, weapon and equipment operation and maintenance, report preparation and other routine law enforcement responsibilities.

Statistical officers and workers in related research support occupations provide statistical and research support services to a wide range of businesses and organizations. These workers conduct statistical routines, monitor trends, compile data and prepare charts, graphs, summaries and reports in support of organizational information needs and research activities. They are employed throughout the public and private sectors. Statistical officers who are also supervisors are included in this unit group.

Police officers maintain order and enforce laws and regulations. They respond to emergency calls, patrol public areas, regulate traffic, control crowds, arrest offenders and build community relationships. They are employed by municipal and federal governments and some provincial and regional governments.

To work as a correctional officer in Canada, you need to complete the Correctional Training program through Correctional Service Canada. Eligibility is achieved by passing a series of assessments and then successfully completing the program.

The Criminal Justice Diploma provides a social justice perspective on criminal justice systems and processes that form the foundation for ethical, responsible, and professional practice in the criminal justice field. This applied program incorporates classroom and community learning experiences with theoretical frameworks for practice. Topics covered include the collaboration of police, courts, corrections, and social service agencies; the impacts of colonization and the resulting intergenerational trauma of Indigenous Peoples; and a critical understanding and social justice approach to current challenges in modern society. Upon receiving your diploma, you’ll be ready for entry-level positions in correctional services, customs, law enforcement, and services to young offenders.

The Criminal and Social Justice Diploma prepares you for a potential career in the field of criminal or social justice or to further post-secondary education such as a bachelor degree. In this program, you will study theories of human and social behavior, criminal justice system and cultural and institutional roots of crime and deviance; learn about oppression and marginalization and will further their understanding of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous knowledge; and develop effective skills in cross-cultural relations, communication, conflict resolution and crisis intervention

Criminal and Social Justice Diploma

The Criminal Justice Diploma is for those seeking an entry-level job in the field, blending university-transfer academic arts courses, skills-based courses, and practical experience. The Criminal Justice program is designed to meet the changing needs of the criminal justice system. The program has been established and organized in consultation with an advisory committee representing the RCMP, municipal police forces, Corrections Branch, provincial courts, industrial and retail security organizations, and other potential employers. The Criminal and Social Justice Diploma will help you gain a practical understanding of criminal and social justice issues in Canada and the world. You'll improve your analytical reasoning, critical thinking, communication skills, and information retrieval to prepare you for your future profession. You will take a variety of criminal and social justice related courses in Sociology, Psychology, Political Science and Criminology, as well as elective Arts courses of personal interest. Some fields of inquiry may include indigenous studies, gender studies, race and ethnicity, globalization and poverty.

The Police and Justice Studies Diploma focuses on skills and knowledge in psychology, criminology, the Canadian criminal justice system, contemporary social and community problems, policing protocols, ethics and strategies, investigating and evidence, conflict management, justice communications, and reporting. Additionally, instruction in fitness, conditioning and lifestyle will teach you about the importance of health and wellness. You can examine core communication forms in the field, develop writing and speaking skills, along with skills in interpreting an array of communication scenarios. The program was developed in close liaison with police and other justice agencies to ensure graduates would have the breadth of skills and knowledge required for a justice-related career.

Police and Justice Studies Diploma

The Criminal Justice Diploma gives you a broad perspective on issues of law, justice, crime, and criminal behaviour with a curriculum that includes subject matter from various disciplines, including criminology, psychology, sociology, communications, and political science. You'll learn skills in mediation, crisis management, and conflict de-escalation, and participate in a field work practicum that is designed to meet your career interests. After you graduate, you may go directly into the third year of the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice program or find work within the law enforcement industry.
