This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the application of biological, chemical, and physical principles to the study of the physical environment and the solution of environmental problems, including subjects such as abating or controlling environmental pollution and degradation; the interaction between human society and the natural environment; and natural resources management. These programs include courses in biology, chemistry, physics, geosciences, climatology, statistics, and mathematical modelling.

Meteorologists and climatologists analyze and forecast weather, provide consultation on atmospheric phenomena and conduct research into the processes and phenomena of weather, climate and atmosphere. They are employed by all levels of government, natural resources and utility companies, the media and private consulting firms, or they may be self-employed.

Agricultural representatives, consultants and specialists provide assistance and advice to farmers on all aspects of farm management, cultivation, fertilization, harvesting, soil erosion and composition, disease prevention, nutrition, crop rotation and marketing. They are employed by businesses, institutions and governments that assist the farming community, or they may be self-employed.

Managers in natural resources production and fishing plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of establishments in forestry and logging, mining and quarrying, oil and gas drilling, production and servicing operations, and commercial fishing.

In the Bachelor of Environment and Society (Environmental Sciences) degree at CapU, you'll gain the skills to make a difference in the environmental workforce. In the environmental sciences program, you'll spend your first two years taking vital baseline science courses in critical disciplines, including biology, botany, chemistry, computer sciences, ecology, geography, research and statistics. You'll also take electives in Indigenous and First Nations topics, social sciences and writing before moving into the upper levels of the program, where you'll choose from a variety of modules such as biodiversity and conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and urban sustainability. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science lets you build on your existing knowledge of environmental science. This team-based degree-completion program brings together theory and practical laboratory and fieldwork skills. You’ll learn about environmental management, economics, law, communications, sustainable development, and cross training with the humanities. You’ll also spend time in laboratories, giving you experience in laboratory practice and procedures as well as the foundations of environmental science with chemistry, hydrology, ecotoxicology and ecology. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for leadership in the industry, government and environmental consulting.

Environmental Science: Bachelor of Science Degree (Third-Year Entry)

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science is to explore the relationships between humans and the environment, drawing on a diverse range of disciplines. By examining Earth’s physical, chemical and biological processes, you will learn how to think critically about how the world works, and use science to address environmental problems. You will tailor your degree to your interests, by choosing one of six concentrations: Applied Biology, Environmental Earth Systems, Environmetrics (environmental statistics),Water Science, Environmental Archaeology, or General. The Bachelor of Science, Major in Ecology and Environmental Biology allows you to acquire knowledge in the many facets of ecology and conservation biology. You will receive a strong grounding in all aspects of biology before specializing in terrestrial or marine ecology. The program involves extensive field and laboratory experiences.

The Bachelor of Science, Environmental Chemistry, allows you to study the chemical processes taking place in the environment as a result of human activities including urban air and water pollution, depletion of ozone layer, production of toxic substances from chemical wastes, prevalence of pesticides, and climate change. The Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences provides a broad understanding of the core natural proceses that shape the Earth and its environment, and an appreciation of how humans are influencing the planet. You gain skills in observation, data collection, laboratory techniques, spatial data analysis, the integration of multiple information sources, and the communication of findings. You will participate in field courses and co-op opportunities to apply knowledge to solutions for real-world resource management, environmental, and geological problems.

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Chemistry explores four key areas of chemistry - analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry - along with core courses in environmental chemistry and other fields such as biology and earth and environmental science. You can participate in co-op experience to support classroom learning and work experience related to your field of study. 

Environmental Chemistry: Bachelor of Science Degree - Major or Honours (UBCO)

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Sciences concentrates on understanding the major environmental issues facing human societies and it adopts an integrative cross-disciplinary approach to the study of these issues. This program provides you a significant background in physical sciences, earth and ocean sciences, and life sciences. You'll learn about issues relating to the sustainability of resource use, the increase in human population, the degradation of the environment caused by pollution and disturbance, the endangerment and extinction of species and natural systems. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for careers in research, government, industry, law, medicine, occupational health, education, or advocacy.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies emphasizes an integrated social science and humanities perspective, and focuses on the foundations of environmental citizenship. You'll learn about the ecological underpinnings of environmental issues and the social aspects of environmental challenges, such as ethics, policy, governance, Indigenous perspectives, gender, and environmental justice. You'll also gain skills in GIS, cartography, communication and public engagement techniques.
