School principals plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of teachers and other staff of an elementary or secondary school. They are employed by public and private schools. Administrators of elementary and secondary education plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the academic affairs of a school system. They are employed by school boards.

Secondary school teachers prepare and teach academic, technical, vocational or specialized subjects at public and private secondary schools. Secondary school teachers who are heads of departments are included in this unit group.

Elementary school and kindergarten teachers teach basic subjects such as reading, writing and arithmetic or specialized subjects such as English or French as a second language at public and private elementary schools.

For the remaining three years, you will be enrolled in University of Victoria courses but receive your instruction, in the classroom, at the Cranbrook campus.

The Bachelor of Education (Elementary) Degree prepares you to teach in schools in British Columbia and in provinces and territories across Canada as well as around the world wherever the BC School Curriculum is taught. You will qualify for a professional teaching certificate issued by the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Certification Branch (TCB). This degree and certification qualifies you to teach the BC School Curriculum for grades Kindergarten to 12 (K-12) in public and private schools. This Post-Baccalaureate Bachelor of Education Degree is designed for university graduates who have earned an appropriate discipline-based undergraduate degree and who wish to become professionally certified teachers. Coursework will have either an elementary or secondary focus with supporting practicums. Either option will prepare applicants for teaching at the middle school level. The program is designed to prepare graduates to be well-qualified beginning teachers. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be recommended to the Teacher Certification Branch (TCB) at the BC Ministry of Education for ‘professional certification’.
