Geological engineers conduct geological and geotechnical studies to assess suitability of locations for civil engineering, mining and oil and gas projects; and plan, design, develop and supervise programs of geological data acquisition and analysis and the preparation of geological engineering reports and recommendations. They are employed in consulting engineering companies, electrical utilities, mining and petroleum companies and in government and research and educational institutions.

The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Geological Engineering focuses on how to assess the physical landscapes where dams, mines, roads, pipelines, railways, forestry, and other extractive operations are planned. The program prepares you for a career that often involves travel and on-site investigations with contemporary engineering tools.  This program focuses on many aspects of geotechnology, including construction, environmental protection, transportation, energy and water supply, mining, natural hazards management, and governmental oversight. The Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Sciences explores the science of the solid earth, including its composition, structure, physical properties, and history. You'll learn about location, identification, classification and extraction of various earth materials and structures; application of the geologic time scale to indicate the order that events on Earth have taken place in; surveying and sampling techniques; field mapping, and more.
