This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to plan, design, and manage systems, processes, and facilities used to collect, store, secure, retrieve, analyse, and transmit medical records and other health information used by clinical professionals and health care organizations. These programs include courses in the principles and basic content of the biomedical and clinical sciences; information technology and applications; data and database management; clinical research methodologies; health information resources and systems; office management; legal requirements; and professional standards.

Health information/medical records administration/administrator

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to help prevent substance abuse, counsel individuals and families with drug and alcohol problems, and perform intervention and therapeutic services for persons suffering from addiction. These programs include courses in individual and group counselling skills, psychology of addiction, sociology, crisis intervention, substance abuse identification methodologies, substance abuse treatment modalities, substance abuse prevention and treatment resources, pharmacology and behavioural aspects of abused substances, treatment evaluation, patient observation and education, group dynamics, professional standards and ethics, and applicable laws and regulations.

Health information management workers collect, code, record, review and manage health information. They are employed by hospitals, clinics, workplace health and safety boards, health record consulting firms and other health care establishments. Health information management workers who are supervisors are included in this unit group.

To receive the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, you must be registered with the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) in good standing. Eligibility is achieved through completion of the required coursework, relevant exams, and the Job Ready Program offered by the HRPA.

The Post-Degree Diploma in Interprofessional Mental Health and Addictions (IMHA) prepares you to engage in the assessment, planning, treatment and evaluation of older teens and adults experiencing acute, persistent, and/or co-occurring mental health and addiction challenges. This program provides you with advanced knowledge and skills to work collaboratively with people affected by mental health and/or addiction/substance use challenges. Applying the Psychosocial Recovery framework, you will gain the necessary knowledge, theoretical frameworks, assessment skills, and counselling interventions to help individuals and their families navigate recovery from mental health and addiction challenges. There is a strong emphasis on applied learning and students will gain skills in motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and stage-wise case-management.

The Health Information Management Post-Baccalaureate Diploma helps you learn to manage important information that is paramount to patient safety in a variety of health care settings. You’ll take practical health information management courses that cover topics in health information science, business leadership, project management and information technology, and participate in practicums. You'll learn how to code, including working with expert data coders, collecting and assigning codes to patient diagnoses and procedures. You'll also complete a six-week project where you are placed in various departments within the health-care sector, such as health informatics, data analytics, information governance, management or quality improvement. In your final semester you’ll job-shadow healthcare professionals and learn from them as they do their work. Once you’ve graduated, you’ll be able to provide expertise in the field of data collection, analytics, security and more.

The Health Analytics Post-Baccalaureate Diploma students will receive thorough training in statistics and data science. Term one of this program sets the mathematical and statistical foundation for higher level learning in the health and data science areas. In subsequent terms, students build on, and apply, these foundational skills to a diverse set of areas. While many of the applications have a health focus, the mathematical, statistical, and data science concepts learned are universally applicable to a wide range of disciplines.
