They formulate policies which establish the direction to be taken by these organizations, either alone or in conjunction with a board of directors. They are employed in health care organizations, educational services, social and community services and membership organizations or they may own and operate their own business.

Public and environmental health and safety professionals review, evaluate and monitor public health and environmental safety hazards and develop strategies to prevent, control and eliminate disease and environmental impact caused by biological and chemical factors. They inspect restaurants, industrial establishments, municipal water systems, public facilities and institutions to ensure compliance with government regulations regarding sanitation, pollution control and the handling and storage of hazardous substances. They are employed throughout the public and private sectors.

Health policy researchers, consultants and program officers conduct research, produce reports and administer health care policies and programs. They are employed by government departments and agencies, consulting establishments, universities, research institutes, hospitals, community agencies, educational institutions, professional associations, non-governmental organizations and international organizations.

Environmental Public Health: Bachelor of Environmental Public Health

The Bachelor of Health Science, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Option, is specifically focused on professional development for healthcare professionals looking to further their career opportunities. You'll take courses in clinical instructional skills, fundamentals for emerging leaders in health care, philosophy of science, and various areas of MRI. Upon graduation, you'll have skills in research and evidence-based practice.

The Health Information Management Degree teaches you practical knowledge in health information science, business leadership, project management, information technology and more. In your third year, choose from concentrations in Information Intelligence, Operational Leadership and Management or take the General stream. During your studies you’ll participate in two internships at regional health organizations as well as a 180-hour supervised practicum in the health, government or private sector. You can also earn money and get relevant work experience before you graduate with the optional Co-operative Education Program. Once you graduate you’ll be eligible to write the national certification exam for the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). 

Health Information Management: Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Health Science degree is a 124-credit program that allows students to examine health and disease in human communities from various perspectives. Students obtain foundational knowledge in the basic sciences of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, and practical knowledge in clinical, public, and population health to understand current health issues and the common approaches used to advance health and wellness. The BSc in Health Science (Honours) degree requires students to conduct original research in an area of health science. Students pursuing this path will gain hands-on research experience by designing and carrying-out a research project under the supervision of a KPU faculty member with expertise relating to the topic.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health Sciences is designed for those who want to understand issues affecting health and disease, environmental issues that affect communities and global health, or multi-level health policy making. In the BA program, you will learn about and apply diverse research traditions to identify and explain the social, behavioural, and biological determinants of health, wellness, and disease in communities and populations. The program can lead you to careers in health, humanitarian work, medical science, and more, as well as further education.

The Bachelor of Health and Exercise Sciences focuses on interdisciplinary nature of human health that includes psychological, physiological, neuromechanical and socio-cultural aspects of movement. Within your second year, you will apply for a concentration. Through labs, practicums, and co-op placements you will be able to build on foundational skills.

The Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree draws courses from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities to provide you with a broad understanding of issues while preparing you for further studies in diverse areas such as community health, epidemiology, management and administration, medicine, occupational and environmental health, rehabilitation sciences and speech pathology. You'll take courses in a variety of disciplines, including the life sciences, social sciences, behavioural sciences, and ethics and law.
