This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the general study and interpretation of the past, including the gathering, recording, synthesizing and criticizing of evidence and theories about past events. These programs include courses in historiography; historical research methods; studies of specific periods, issues and cultures; and applications to areas such as historic preservation, public policy, and records administration.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA), Major in History, will provide you with the opportunity to study the many peoples and cultures whose contributions have created the world in which we live today. This BA degree allows you to develop the knowledge and core competencies characteristic of a traditional BA program, while preparing you to respond creatively and innovatively to a range of challenges in our community and our world. You will gain the literacy and analytical competencies demanded by twenty-first century employers. Equally importantly, you will become a better-informed citizen of our increasingly interconnected world.

History: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in History focuses on how to see the big picture of how and why things have changed over time. You'll learn about everything that humans do, from politics to sexuality to religion to work to war to social movements to science, and beyond. Studying History gives you the ability to make sense of a changing world. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for careers such as archivist, conservator, diplomat, journalist, curator, policy analyst, and more, or for further education. 

History: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major or Honours

The Bachelor of Arts, History, allows you to explore the history of education, the history of science, of terrorism, of art, of the environmenl, social history, religious history and even the philosophy of history. Looking at borders and continents, you will study European, American, Canadian history and more, all within one program. Rather than just memorizing facts and timelines, you will experience the past brought to life through dynamic lectures, historical reconstruction and unique research projects. Because employers look for entry-level candidates with some work experience, you have opportunities at TRU in undergraduate research, co-op work placements, practicums, field schools, service learning and study abroad.

The Bachelor of Arts in History provides an understanding of Canadian history both before and after confederation. 

The Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Visual Culture explores the heart of human experience and identity, and its tangible expressions of cultural values, religious beliefs, and political agendas. The program offers a variety of global perspectives for exploring art and visual culture. Core themes drawn from literary and cultural studies, gender and women's studies, history, the digital humanities and anthropology. 

Art History and Visual Culture: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major (UBCO)

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History focuses on how to analyze and compare images and material culture from a broad variety of cultural contexts, integrate different kinds of information gleaned from historical research and critical reflection, and develop synthetic arguments concerning the impact of images, art, and media in society. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for further study or careers in fields such as cultural heritage and art institutions, design and architecture, publishing, journalism, and more.

The Bachelor of Arts in History provides an understanding of the present by studying the past. Read broadly, think analytically, write effectively and inform policy. The program prepares you for graduate and professional programs, and to pursue careers. You can participate in co-op experience to support classroom learning and work experience related to your field of study.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in History focuses on the way in which human communities and their members have behaved, how they have constituted themselves, how they have conducted and sustained their lives, and how they have thought about their condition and the traditions to which they have given their allegiance. You can choose from a wide range of courses on Asian, Canadian, European, Latin American, and American history, and examine themes such as culture, environment, politics, society, world history, and the history of science. You'll have opportunities for Co-op and study abroad programs, and upon graduation, will be prepared for a career in education, government, non-profit, business, law, museums, publishing, media, the arts, and others.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Medieval Studies is the use of the past in the present and provide a necessary corrective to our culturally ingrained misconceptions about the medieval and pre-modern world. You can develop a coherent understanding of the civilization as a whole in both its unity and diversity. You'll have the opportunity for Co-op and study abroad programs, and upon graduation will be prepared for careers in museums, libraries, education, communications, cultural and non-profit organizations, tourism, government, and others.

Medieval Studies: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major (UBCV)

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in History focuses on a wide range of themes and continents, and will help you make sense of current events. You'll look at issues facing the Middle East, Latin America, the European Union, or Canada within the context of those societies developed. Additionally, you'll learn about nationalism, inequality, or climate change while learning how humans have created or confronted these issues over time. History courses prepare you for many careers, including in teaching, law, journalism, the civil service, politics, museums, libraries and archives, and universities.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in History is about the past to understand the present and gain skills in critical thinking, analysis, research, writing, and communication. You'll enhance your understanding of various cultures and have the opportunity to participate in field trips and study tours. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for careers in fields such as teaching, public service, law, archives, public history, research, and journalism.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Art History and Visual Studies is about the rich visual traditions of world cultures. Explore the basics of visual communication while learning about the history of artistic materials and techniques. Study everything from museum studies and art forgery to video games and horror films. You have the option of completing this program with a co-op placement.

Art History and Visual Studies: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major or Honours

The Bachelor of Arts in History Degree gives us the tools to reflect on who we are, where we come from and where we might go. You'll learn how to critically evaluate historical myths versus truths. This program will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of history and its role in human society. You have the chance to study abroad in our optional field schools such as Canada's Internment Era Field School.

In the Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Studies Degree, you'll study the era’s cultural practices and artefacts to discover how they shape the modern world. You'll explore medieval literature, history, art and philosophy to gain an awareness of our cultural heritage and work with original medieval manuscripts.

Medieval Studies: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major or Honours

The Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in History takes you on a journey through time in specialized areas of study examining a wide array of topics, as broad as politics, war and genocide and social movements and as narrow as European film and the place of hockey in Canadian culture. You'll read primary and secondary texts designed to impart knowledge and critical understanding of their areas of study, and be exposed to different methodologies, approaches and historical perspectives. History degree graduates have gone on to careers including education, law, heritage, journalism, marketing, public service, and the film and video game industries.
