This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares public health specialists to monitor and evaluate health and related safety standards in industrial, commercial, and government workplaces and facilities. These programs include courses in occupational health and safety standards and regulations; health-related aspects of various occupations and work environments; health hazard testing and evaluation; test equipment operation and maintenance; industrial toxicology; worker health and safety education; and the analysis and testing of job-related equipment, behaviour practices, and protective devices and procedures.

Occupational health and industrial hygiene

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares public health specialists to plan and manage health services in local community settings, including the coordination of related support services, government agencies, and private resources. These programs include courses in public health, community health services and delivery, health behaviour and cultural factors, local government operations, human services, health communication and promotion, health services administration in local settings, environmental health, preventive and comparative medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, family and community health, and applicable laws and regulations.

Occupational health and safety specialists review, evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and develop strategies to prevent, control and eliminate accidents and occupational injuries. They inspect the workplace environments, equipment and practices to ensure compliance with organization and government environment, health and safety standards and regulations. They are employed throughout the public and private sectors.

The Occupational Health and Safety Diploma is a science-oriented program and combines studies in safety, health, engineering and business. This combination prepares the student to understand the potential safety and health hazards of the work environment, as well as the human relations involved in improving the workplace environment.

The Community and Public Safety Professional Diploma program prepares you for a career in the public safety sector. The program will introduce you to a variety of opportunities including but not limited to, policing, corrections, border services, conservation, bylaw, sheriff, SPCA, coroner, Fisheries and Ocean Canada, probation, military, and commercial vehicle safety. As you explore the various professions in the sector, you will also examine the complex socio-historical relationship between Canada and Indigenous people, thus challenging beliefs and assumptions about present day relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, specifically in the criminal justice system.
