Since many students will continue their studies, the requirements are sufficiently flexible to enable students to complete the required prerequisites for upper-level course work in their intended major. Students may choose to concentrate their studies in one area of the sciences. 

The Associate of Science Degree provides a broad academic education that prepares students for workplace and upper-level university study. 

The Associate of Science Degree allows you to take the science courses that interest you. You can take courses in biology, geography, chemistry, physics, computing science, mathematics, and statistics. Most of the UFV science courses offer a lab component that compliments the lecture component, so that you can practice common lab and experimental procedures. After you graduate, you are able to think critically and are aptly prepared to branch directly into a job field or continue your studies in the Bachelor of Science.

The Associate of Science degree allows you to complete two years of general undergraduate science at VCC, earning a solid foundation for specialized upper-level university programs or a standalone credential. The courses are presented using a variety of instructional strategies, resources and activities including lectures, laboratories, online and blending learning, field trips, demonstrations, guest speakers, case studies, and applied practical experiences.

Associate of Science Degrees are awarded to students who complete at least 60 credits of university program courses, and obtain an average overall grade of “C”, as well as meeting the additional requirements for each associate degree. Students who qualify for an associate degree must submit an application to graduate.
