To work as a hotel front desk clerk in B.C., you may choose to earn the Tourism Certified Professional (Front Desk Agent) certification. The certification is earned by completing the emerit Front Desk Agent training program requirements.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to manage travel-related enterprises and related convention and/or tour services. These programs include courses in travel agency management, tour arranging and planning, convention and event planning, travel industry operations and procedures, tourism marketing and promotion strategies, travel counselling, travel industry law, international and domestic operations, and travel and tourism policy.

Conference and event planners plan, organize and coordinate conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars, exhibitions, trade shows, festivals and other events. They are employed by tourism associations, trade and professional associations, convention and conference centres, governments and by conference and event planning companies, or they may be self-employed.

Travel counsellors advise clients on travel options and tour packages, make bookings and reservations, prepare tickets and receive payment. They are employed in travel agencies, transportation and tourism firms and hotel chains.

Hotel front desk clerks make room reservations, provide information and services to guests and receive payment for services. They are employed by hotels, motels and resorts.

Tourism Certificates

The Tourism Management Co-op Diploma focuses on core tourism management functions, build connections with industry and job skills on your four-month accredited, supervised co-operative work term. You'll study electives that meet your area of interest, ranging from hotel, adventure, events, eco-tourism and tourism planning. After completing the program, you can continue into the Bachelor degree in Tourism Management.

Tourism Management Co-op Diploma

The Tourism Management International Diploma allows you to join your instructors on field trips, gain knowledge from guest speakers and take part in a practicum placement as part of your concentrated tourism training. The Diploma in Tourism Management International program is specifically for international students who speak English as a Second Language.

Tourism Management International Diploma

The Adventure Tourism and Business Operations (ATBO) Diploma is ideal if you are passionate about adventure, sustainability, the environment and the outdoors and interested in working in the Adventure Tourism industry. Your ATBO instructors are highly skilled guides in avalanche safety, rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater kayaking, backcountry skiing, backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking. This program includes the latest industry-developed training material, and includes BC provincially-endorsed programs’ standards. 

Adventure Tourism Business Operations Diploma

The Tourism Management Diploma prepares students for careers in resorts, hotels, and other tourism operations. The program includes courses in tourism, business management, and related specialty courses as well as experiential work placement and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. You can also use the knowledge and skills acquired in this program to transfer into the College of the Rockies Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Sustainable Business Practices or a bachelor’s degree in tourism management at other post-secondary institutions.

Tourism Management Diploma

The Tourism Management Diploma provides you with an overview of the tourism industry along with management skills for this diverse and integrated industry. The program includes courses that address tourism and business management functions as well as providing opportunities to network and build connections within the sector. An integral part of the program is a co-op, as well as a faculty-supervised tourism sector study course, which will allow you to engage in experiential learning within the tourism community. Core themes include tourism and hospitality operations, sustainability, service management, marketing, and industry diversity. Upon graduation, you will be prepared for supervisory or front-line management positions in tourism and hospitality.

The Ski Resort Operations and Management Diploma gives you a unique blend of management skills and industry knowledge to prepare you for lasting leadership roles. The aim of this program is to accelerate the movement of graduates into supervisory and management level positions. Close contact with industry operations is provided through field trip visits that introduce you to industry supervisory and management personnel. Field trips provide you with first-hand exposure to all aspects of resort indoor and outdoor operations. This program includes a co-operative education work term at a ski resort.

Ski Resort Operations and Management Diploma

The Tourism Management Diploma explore your options that gives you a good sampling of the specialties you can take in Tourism Management. You will gain the necessary skills to provide quality tourist experiences, develop and manage tourism businesses with entrepreneurial spirit, and contribute to community development in a manner that is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. Students enrolled in Bachelor of Tourism Management who wish to exit the program upon completion of Year 2 can apply for this diploma.

The focus of the Tourism Studies Diploma is on the provision of leisure experiences for domestic and international visitors. The program assesses the impact of tourism on individuals, communities, and the environment in order to develop best practices for sustainable tourism development. The features of the program include the provision of applied skills and knowledge, direct leadership experience, a co-operative education model (paid employment), and small class sizes.
