This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on computer theory, computing problems and solutions, and the design of computer systems and user interfaces from a scientific perspective. These programs include courses in the principles of computational science, computer development and programming; and applications to a variety of end-use situations.

Computer science

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills to support engineers in developing, implementing, and evaluating computer software and program applications. These programs include courses in computer programming, programming languages, databases, user interfaces, networking and warehousing, encryption and security, software testing and evaluation, and customization.

Computer software technology/technician

To work as a financial analyst in B.C., you may choose to earn a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation. You can earn the designation by completing the CFA® Program and acceptable work experience requirements. 

Employment as a senior manager in financial, communications, and other business services may additionally require several years of related work experience. 

To work as an accountant in B.C., you may choose to earn the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Eligibility for this designation is achieved through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a Canadian or international university and required prerequisite courses.

University of Victoria - Dual Admission allows you to secure your seat at the University of Victoria while you study at NIC and take advantage of the benefits both schools have to offer. Develop university-level research skills in NIC's discussion friendly classes, pay less tuition and qualify for entrance awards at both institutions. The University Transfer Computing Science and Software Systems certificate explores incorporating critical thinking into theoretical reasoning and decision making, utilizes information literacy to determine the nature and extent of information required. Students will apply scientific and quantitative methodology, analytical skills, and problem-solving in math and computer programming skills.

University Transfer - Computing Science and Software Systems Certificate

The University Transfer Software Systems Certificate allows you to complete first-year software systems at VCC and transfer directly into second-year degree programs at Simon Fraser University (SFU). For the assured pathways to SFU, the maximum time for completion is 16 months. For the competitive admission to SFU, the maximum time for completion is 3 years.
