The Anesthesia Assistant Diploma is for respiratory therapists or registered nurses who have critical care experience. Combined with a clincal practicum students will be able to fulfil the role of anesthesia assistant.

1. Be a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) or registered nurse (RN) in Canada, or equally qualified individual


Academic Admission Requirement

1. One year of post-graduate clinical experience
2. Letter of sponsorship and commitment from an anesthesia department (typically your current place of employment, to deliver the clinical placement; more than one clinical site may be needed to fulfill all competencies required)
3. Resume detailing education and clinical work experience
4. Current Emergency Cardiac Care [Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)] certification is required before participating clinical practicum 

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Once accepted into the program, you are responsible for finding a clinical practicum placement affiliate, such as a hospital, that is willing to undertake the training with you and that meets specific requirements. Please refer to the Clinical Affiliation page and speak with the Program Administrator (Science) for further inquiries.
