Alexander Introduction

Completion of Secondary Education in British Columbia or the Yukon Territory is required. (BC/Yukon Certificate of Graduation, or Dogwood diploma).

Alexander College also recognizes the following alternate British Columbia/Yukon graduation equivalents:

- English 12 or English First Peoples 12 with 60% (C grade) or higher
- complete secondary school in North America
- A TOEFL paper based score of 550 with an essay score of 4.0
- A TOEFL computer based score of 213 with an essay score of 4.0
- A TOEFL internet based score of 80 with scores of 19 in reading and writing and 18 in listening and speaking
- An IELTS Academic Module overall score of 6.0 with >6.0 in the written band
- A CAEL score of 60 with an essay score of >60
- A LPI score of Level 4 with an essay score of 24
- A GED Reasoning Through Language Arts score of 165 or higher

Alexander English Language

Alexander College is a member of the British Columbia Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) system and has established transfer agreements with colleges and universities across British Columbia, including the most prestigious universities in the province. Alexander College is continuously negotiating new transfer agreements with the major universities in BC and the rest of Canada, as well as with other colleges and universities around the world.

The [BCCAT transfer system’s online transfer guide](http://www.bctransferguide.ca/) enables students to check the transferability of the courses they wish to take, as well as develop a study plan allowing seamless transfer between Alexander College and the specific program they wish to complete.

University Transfer: applicants must successfully complete at least 9 transferable post-secondary credits, with a cumulative GPA of 1.50 or higher. University transfer applicants with cumulative GPA’s below 1.50 may be admitted provisionally.

Applicants must successfully complete a nationally regulated secondary education program (12 years), and are required to submit transcripts showing the last 3 years of senior education (grades 10-12).

Alternately, both domestic and international students may demonstrate completion of secondary education through one of the following internationally recognized equivalents:

- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
- British Patterned/Cambridge Education System (GCSE/IGCSE/GCE)
- Minimum of 5 GCSE/IGCSE O-level academic subjects, with a minimum accepted grade of E or higher. Students successfully completing courses with good grades at the GCE (A or A/S) level may be awarded advanced standing or credit.
- French Baccalaureate (Baccalaureat General)

Alexander Out of Province Transfer Students

Applicants who have not graduated from high school, or equivalent, and are at least 19 years of age on the first day of classes may be admitted as a mature student without documentation of high school graduation, provided that they have submitted all required documents, including educational transcripts for the highest level of education completed, and have met the requirements for [English language proficiency](https://alexandercollege.ca/admissions-and-registration/admission-requirements/english-proficiency-requirements/). Transcripts should include the last 2-3 years of education the applicant has completed, or a minimum of 5 graded courses.

[Canadian Certified Offshore Schools](https://bcforhighschool.gov.bc.ca/offshore/)
The BC Global Education Program makes it possible for school in other countries (offshore schools) to offer BC curriculum to international students. In China, offshore schools are referred to as ‘Sino-Canadian schools.”

In order to qualify as an offshore school, specific standards must be met. For example, they must employ BC-certified teachers and maintain adequate facilities.

English 12 marks from an offshore school may be used to satisfy the English proficiency requirement, the transcript must be accompanied the Canadian graduation certificate (certificates may be issued by any participating province). Without the Canadian graduation certificate, Sino-Canada transcripts are to be assessed as Chinese, and thus international English 12 cannot be used for English placement.
