The B.C. Adult Graduation Diploma (Adult Dogwood) is the secondary school graduation diploma for adults, 18 years of age or over. To be eligible for the Adult Dogwood, you must complete three courses after enrolling in an adult program. Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) may be used to meet any of the requirements for the Adult Dogwood.

A. Adult Basic Education (ABE)
 
1. One of:
 
    - High school graduation or equivalent
    - Minimum 19 years of age
    - Minimum 17 or 18 years of age and out of public school for at least one year
 
Note: Completion of English 11 (C) or equivalent is required before you can take any university-level courses
 
B. Adult Basic Education University Preparation (ABEUP)
 
1. One of: 
 
    - High school graduation or equivalent
    - Minimum 18 years of age before the first day of classes
 
2. English 11 (C) or equivalent 

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Students must be 18 years or older to be eligible for the Adult Graduation Diploma. 
 
2. If you have completed English 11 (C) or equivalent, you should apply to the ABEUP (Adult Basic Education University Preparation) Program. While in the ABEUP program, you have the option of taking up to 3 first-year courses at the university-level. 
 
3. To complete the Adult Graduation Diploma, students must complete a total of five courses as listed below. Of the five courses, three courses must be completed after enrolling in an adult program or based on Prior Learning Assessment. 
 
    - (One Course) English 12 or ENGL 091 or equivalent or higher
    - (One Course) Math 11 or MATH 084 or MATH 085 or equivalent or higher
    - (Three Courses) Select one of the two combinations:
    - three additional Grade 12 course or equivalent or higher
    - Social Sciences 11 and two Grade 12 courses 
 
4. Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses are equivalent of high school study. Students can apply to take an ABE course either online, or by calling or visiting your nearest Upgrading and University Prep Department to discuss about your education and career goals with an instructional assistant. At that time, you may be advised to register for an assessment session where your reading, writing, and/or math skills will be assessed.

5. Applicants may be advised to register for an assessment session where your reading, writing, and/or math skills will be assessed. You must submit an application for admission and obtain a UFV student number before you can take the placement assessment. 
 
6. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year.

Admission Advice

Applications are accepted throughout the year and should be submitted as early as possible. Once applications are complete (all required documents have been received) an application date is recorded. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and will be offered the next available space in the program.
