The University Foundation Certificate is an intensive, full-time academic preparation program specifically designed for students who do not meet the English language requirements for full-time academic study at UFV.

Option A. Entry into Level 1
 
One of:
 
- Assessment/placement at level 070 of the UFV ESL Program
- All of EAP 064, EAP 066, and EAP 068 (GPA of 2.33) 
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) = at least 173 (computer based) or 61 (internet based)
- International English Language Test (IELTS) (overall score of 5)
- Canadian Test for English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTest) (4.0)
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) (50)
- Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test (essay score 20, level 3)
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) (70)
 
OR
 
Option B. Entry into Level 2
 
One of:
 
- Assessment/placement at level 80 of the UFV ESL Program
- Both EAP 070 and EAP 074 (2.33 GPA)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) = at least 213 (computer based) or 79 (internet based)
- International English Language Test (IELTS) (overall score of 6)
- Canadian Test for English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTest) (4.5)
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) (60)
- Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test (essay 25, level 4)
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) (80)
- a Composition Placement Test (CPT) (41)

Note: Placement into the Foundation program based on IELTS or TOEFL includes consideration of band and section scores respectively.

Admission Advice

Application opening dates for specific intake applications:

Fall semester: October; Winter semester: May; Summer semester: October
	
Applications should be submitted as soon as possible after the first day to apply. 	
 	
Once applications are complete (all required documents have been received), an application date is recorded. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
