The Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Animal Biology explores the field of animal science as you apply your knowledge to real-world biological issues through hands-on field work and research on farms, as well as in laboratories, animal shelters, and wildlife rehabilitation centres. You'll study the fundamentals of animal behaviour, animal physiology, and examine related fields as they apply to farm, companion, and other animals. You’ll learn about the role of animals in human society and the ethical, environmental, and other issues that arise, and receive training that primes you for graduate work, or admission to veterinary or human medicine.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Science to pursue this program. 

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 and English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them) 

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Pre-calculus 12 or equivalent

5. One of:
    - Anatomy and Physiology 12 (Biology 12)
    - Chemistry 12
    - Physics 12 
    - Equivalent

6. Pre-calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12 or equivalent

7. Chemistry 11

8. Physics 11

9. A Language 11 or Waiver (includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)

10. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics & Computation
    - Sciences
    - Social Studies 
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. If you would like to major in Applied Animal Biology at UBCV, you need to apply for the Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology. You will then select/declare the Major the end of your first-year study in the Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology.

2. The program prepares eligible students for admission to the four-year veterinary program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). International students seeking to pursue veterinary studies should note that Canada’s five accredited veterinary colleges have limited admission intake, and generally apply restrictions for entry, based on residence in Canadian provinces.
