The Certificate in Adult Learning and Education (UGCALE) is designed to introduce the broad field of adult learning and education to those who anticipate being involved with or who may already be designing, planning, implementing, teaching and evaluating educational and training programs for adults as part of their lifelong learning and professional practice. You'll learn how to organize, conduct, and evaluate instruction for adults while also studying institutions of education and the context of adult learning.

1. Meet UBCV English Language Admission Standard.

2. Meet the minimum requirements for admission to undergraduate study at UBCV

3. Two years of experience designing and delivering adult learning in settings such as workplaces, community organizations, civil society groups, international development, and/or government services. This experience can be paid or voluntary or a mix of the two.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. This program is ideal for:
    - Students who want to pursue undergraduate studies in Adult Learning and Education at the certificate level
    - Students who are completing their degrees at UBCV in other faculties and disciplines who want to add a focus to their studies
    - Students who already have a bachelor’s degree in an area other than Adult Learning and Education and are taking on adult learning-related responsibilities in their current work and desire additional education related to their duties
    - Students who want to take Adult Learning and Education courses prior to applying for an M.Ed. or M.A.

2. Eligible degree programs are Bachelor of Applied Science (Faculty of Applied Science) and Bachelor of Science (Faculty of Science). Students should consult with their home Faculty and/or Department prior to completing the certificate requirements to confirm their eligibility for the certificate program and the impact of completing the certificate on their progression towards their degree program.

3. At this time, students enrolled in UBCV degree programs other than the above-named programs are not eligible to complete the undergraduate Adult Learning and Education Certificate, but may complete the required courses as electives if permitted by your degree program at UBCV.

4. If you are not already enrolled in a UBCV undergraduate degree program, admission criteria to the certificate program will be the same as those required for admission to undergraduate programs at UBCV, as outlined by the Undergraduate Programs and Admissions. 

5. It is possible to transfer your Certificate courses and continue into the Adult Learning and Education Diploma Program. However, this option is not available if you are completing the Certificate while completing your bachelor degrees at UBCV in other faculties and disciplines [outside of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Faculty of Applied Science) and Bachelor of Science (Faculty of Science)].
