JIBC Introduction

Mature Student = an applicant who does not have high school graduation or equivalent, and is at least 21 years of age. Applicants in the mature student admission category must meet all other admission requirements of their intended program of study.

[Institutional Admission Requirements](https://www.jibc.ca/procedure/admissions) for all JIBC programs of 30 credits or more are listed as below:

1. High school graduation or mature student status (21 years or older)

2. English 12 (C) or English First Peoples 12 (C) or equivalent

JIBC General Admission

If English is not your first language, you are required to take [English Language Proficiency Requirement](https://www.jibc.ca/international-studies/english-requirements) through one of the following ways:
- English 12 (C) or English Studies 12 (C) or English First Peoples 12 (C) or equivalent 

One of the testing options (must be written within 24 months of the program start date):
- IELTS Academic = at least 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0
- TOEFL iBT = at least 80 overall, with at least 20 in each band
- CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Test) = at least 60 overall, with 50 in each skill band
- Cambridge English Exams = score of C in C1 Advanced
- CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test) = at least 7 in each skill band
- PTE (Pearson Test of English) = at least 58 overall
- Duolingo English Test = at least score of 110 (taken after February 1, 2020 and will be accepted for the Winter 2022 intake)
- Vancouver Community College's ELSK 0815 (S) and ELSK 0820 (S)

If you have completed some post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward a program at JIBC. Please refer to JIBC's [Transfer Credit web page](https://www.jibc.ca/registration/transfer-credits). Use [BC Transfer Guide](https://www.bctransferguide.ca/) to check course transferability/equivalency of courses completed in BC. 

Transfer credit is not done automatically. Students are responsible for initiating the transfer credit process. To receive transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript with your Application for Admission or Readmission, along with a Transfer Credit Request form. A detailed course description may also be required before credit can be evaluated.
