The Bachelor of Education (Elementary) Degree prepares you to teach in schools in British Columbia and in provinces and territories across Canada as well as around the world wherever the BC School Curriculum is taught. You will qualify for a professional teaching certificate issued by the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Certification Branch (TCB). This degree and certification qualifies you to teach the BC School Curriculum for grades Kindergarten to 12 (K-12) in public and private schools. The program integrates theoretical study with experiential learning.

1.30 credits of general course work in areas related to the B.C. elementary curriculum and must include:
- a. 6 credits of English (including both literature and composition)
- b. 3 credits of Mathematics (not statistics)
- c. 3 credits of Science in one of the following areas – Biology, Chemistry. Physics, Physical Geography, Geology/Earth Science, Environmental Studies, or Astronomy
- d. 3 credits of Canadian studies (e.g History or Geography)
- g. 30 academic credits (in any variety of subjects)

Note: Teachable subject areas in the BC School Curriculum are: Art, Business Education, Dance, Drama, Music, Language Arts (English, Second Languages), Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Education, Science, and Social Studies (any combination of Anthropology, Canadian Studies, Economics, First Nations Studies, Geography, History, Political Science, or Sociology)

2. Minimum 2.67 GPA. Admission averages are calculated on a total of 33 credits, including (a) to (e) above.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. At least 15 hours of relevant volunteer or paid experience working with groups of elementary school-aged children (K-7 for elementary; grades 6-9 for middle school). 
2. Submit two reference letters (must be sent directly to Admissions)

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Admission is competitive. You are encouraged to obtain broader post-secondary studies, greater subject preparation, and higher grades than the minimum standards outlined.

3. A candidate may be asked to complete an oral and/or written task to assess English language as an admission requirement or at any time during the program. A student may be asked as needed to undertake remedial work in oral and/or written English language to support student success.

4. It's important to contact TRU's Academic Advising Department to confirm admission requirements and ensure you select appropriate courses for entry into the Bachelor of Education Degree.
