The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) gives you the technical knowledge, human understanding, and practical skills to administer responsible and client-centered care as a registered nurse (RN) in a variety of health care practice agencies (institutional, community and international) and with people who have a variety of health concerns. Upon completion of the BScN Program, you are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX you apply for registration to the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Option A: High school applicants
1. One of:

- Students who have graduated high school or who present university preparatory (UPrep) or adult basic education (ABE) coursework. A blend of UPrep/ABE and high school courses may be considered.

- Students with up to 11 credits of post-secondary coursework. GPA from these courses will not apply.

Academic requirements:

1. Grade 12 or mature student status or equivalent
2. English 12 (73% or equivalent)
3. Math 12 course (73% or equivalent)
4. Anatomy & Physiology 12 (73% or equivalent)
5. Chemistry 11 (73% or equivalent)
6. One other Grade 11 or 12 level Science (73% or equivalent)

Note: A GPA will be generated using the 5 courses above for admission consideration and ranking.

OR 

Option B: Post-secondary applicants (Students with 12 credits or more of post-secondary coursework by the application deadline)

1. Grade 12 (or equivalent) or mature student status
2. Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 30 credits
3. Completion of the following 12 credits:

- English 1000 level or higher with a C+ minimum
- Biology 1000 level or higher with a C+ minimum
- Social Science 1000 or higher with C+ minimum
- Math/Science 1000 or higher with a C+ minimum

Note: Applicants in this category must have the 4 post-secondary courses noted above. A GPA will be generated for post-secondary coursework. If an applicant has more than 30 credits, the most recent 30 credits will be used for GPA consideration and ranking.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Situational Judgement Test: CASPer- Applicants will be required to complete an online situational judgement test, which assesses for non-cognitive skills and interpersonal characteristics that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program and will complement the other tools that we use for applicant screening.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Entry to this program is very competitive. A selective admission process is used to determine admission.

2. There is one intake starting each September for 80 students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) programs. Students are expected to submit only one TRU application for the BScN admission either to Kamloops campus or the Williams Lake campus:

- Kamloops campus: The BScN program is offered on the Kamloops campus yearly every September
- Williams Lake campus: Williams Lake offers the first two years of the BScN program. Students then transfer to the Kamloops campus to complete the third and fourth years of the BScN in Kamloops.

Admission Advice

The application deadline is January.

Applications are accepted for the following year’s September intake between October and January. The supporting document deadline, (including high school transcripts, post-secondary transcripts, and the Letter of Introduction), is the same date as the application deadline or within 10 days of submission of the application or whichever is later.

TRU School of Nursing is currently undergoing work to revise admissions processes and criteria for the Bachelor of Nursing program. These changes are expected to come into effect for the Fall of 2023 intake. Please check back regularly on TRU's program website for updates.
