Advance your Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) skills for work in engineering firms, architecture firms, development companies, government, or private industry with the CAD and BIM diploma. During your first year, you will develop skills in Architectural, Civil/Structural, Mechanical or Steel Construction Modelling with Steel Detailing. You will further develop your skills by adding an additional specialty of Architectural, Civil/Structural, Mechanical or Steel Construction Modelling in Steel Detailing in Year 2. This program uses project based learning strategies with in-class instructional presentations, blended online delivery, and laboratory work using Autodesk, Trimble, and other software.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 or equivalent
3. Workplace Math 11 or equivalent or
 
VCC Basic Math Assessment with Basic Arithmetic (80%) and Basic Algebra (60%)

Academic Admission Requirement

1. You are recommended to have:
 
- Related work experience
- Excellent English communication skills
- Working knowledge of Windows OS
- Good mathematical and mechanical comprehension
- Ability to work in imperial and metric units of measurement
- General good health, good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Solid work habits and an ability to work well with others
- Logical reasoning and an ability to visualize objects
- An interest in all aspects of architecture, engineering, general construction and related fields

 

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. If you do not meet the English language requirement, you may still possibly be admitted at the discretion of the Department.
2. If you have met all the academic requirements and have completed high school Drafting 11 and 12, you may apply for direct entry into Term 2 of the program. Departmental approval is required. 
3. If you have completed VCC's CAD Technician Short Certificate (granted within the last 4 years), you may apply for direct entry into Term 2.
4. You may be placed into Term 4 of the program if you have one of the following:

    - Civil/Structural or Steel Detailing Technician Certificate (granted within the last 4 years); or
    - Recent Drafting Technician Certificate (any discipline) with department review and approval

5. Applicants must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application.
6. There are four specialty areas in this Program. Students must complete two of these programs (one program per year) to obtain the Diploma:

    - Architectural Technician Certificate 
    - Civil/Structural Technician Certificate 
    - Steel Construction Modelling Technician Certificate (within the last 4 years)
    - Mechanical Engineer Technician Certificate 

7. If you would like to complete the diploma program, apply to the diploma program with your chosen specialty for Year One. Once you are in the program, you will be asked to select a different specialty for Year Two.
