The Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NBNP) provides you with the skills and knowledge to enter the registered nursing field. The NBNP introduces you to the unique aspects of delivering health care in small urban and rural communities located throughout northern BC and beyond.

1. Minimum 3.0 GPA or ('B') calculated on the most recent 60 credits of undergraduate study

2. All of:

- a) Must be completed within 10 years prior to admission
    - 6 credits of Human Anatomy and Physiology (B-) (HHSC 111-4 and HHSC 112-4 are recommended; must include a lab component)
    - 3 credits of Microbiology (B-) (HHSC 110-3 is recommended)
    - 3 credits of Statistics (B-) (STAT 240-3 is recommended)

- b) Must be completed within 10 years prior to admission
    - 3 credits of Social Sciences (B-) (ANTH 213-3 is recommended)
    - 3 credits of English (B-) (ENGL 100-3 is recommended) 
    - 3 credits of Indigenous Studies (B-) (FNST 100-3 is recommended) 
    - 3 credits of Psychology (B-) (PSYC 101-3 is recommended) 

3. Completion of at least 24 credits at the 2nd-year level or above (i.e. 200 level or above)


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Personal statement/letter of intent
2. Resume
3. Rural and Remote Suitability Index Questionnaire
4. Two reference letters
5. CASPer assessment (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics) 
6. Criminal record search (upon acceptance)

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. If your first language is not English, regardless of citizenship  or country of origin, you must submit the following evidence of English language proficiency prior to admission:

BC Secondary School English 12 or equivalent (70%); and
either an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic, or a CELBAN (Canadian English Language Assessment for Nurses) with current, valid results and scores as set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) for the year of admission

2. If you would like to apply to the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NBNP) under the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Access option (see details by scrolling down to find the appropriate admission requirements), the following is required: 

meet all all Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NBNP)'s admission requirements
be graduates of Practical Nursing program recognized by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)  since 1994;
have current practicing registration or be eligible for practicing registration with the BCCNM.

Note: LPN applicants will be assessed on an individual basis and may be eligible for a maximum of 15 transfer credits towards the NBNP program. 

3. UNBC grants priority admission to students who meet admission criteria and apply by the deadline of January 15th. The University may review applications received after the deadline based on available space in the program. 

4. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to this Program. Admission to the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NBNP) is a competitive, criteria-weighted process consisting of the following parts:

Academic standing, including prerequisite courses
Rural Remote and Suitability Index score
CASPer Score
Supplemental application score

5. The UNBC School of Nursing considers all applicants who complete the application process and meet the minimum requirements; however, preference is given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Fifty percent (50%) of seats in this Program are allocated to applicants who complete at least 15 credits of undergraduate study at Northern Lights College (within 10 years prior to the semester of admission). A further twenty-five percent (25%) of seats are allocated to self-identified Indigenous applicants. If the allocated seats listed above are not filled, UNBC offers the remaining seats to other qualified applicants.
