The Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) Diploma gives you the competencies and knowledge required to work with children under the age of five in licensed preschools and childcare centres. Education courses in the diploma meet the requirements of the Early Childhood Educator Registry for the ECE Certificate to Practice; Infant/Toddler Certificate to Practice and/or the Special Needs Certificate to Practice. Students who successfully complete an ECCE diploma are eligible to apply to the degree program. You'll take courses in child development, guiding young children, family and community, and apply your knowledge in practicums.

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 (60%) or equivalent

3. Recommended but not required: minimum grade point average of 2.0 (60%) calculated on English Studies 12 or English 12 or English First Peoples 12 and three academic Grade 12 courses

4. Admissions preference may be given to students with Literary Studies 12 as one of the three academic Grade 12 courses.

Academic Admission Requirement



1. English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. If English is not your primary language, you must meet the English language requirements for admission.

2. Current Grade 12 students can be conditionally accepted based on final Grade 11 grades or interim Grade 12 grades. Students can upload proof of grades (e.g. unofficial transcripts, copies of report cards) through EducationPlannerBC when applying to Capilano University. 
    - Note: All B.C. applicants must release their grades to CapU via the BC Ministry of Education at Student Transcripts Services (STS). Please do this as soon as possible.

3. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called prerequisites) which are listed within Capilano University’s course description. Prerequisite = course that must be successfully completed prior to registering in a given course. For example, English 12 (67%) or equivalent is required prior to registering an English 100 level course. 

4. If you do not meet the admission and/or course prerequisite requirements, academic upgrading is available at Capilano University.
