The Human Services Diploma provides training in a specific human services field, and prepare you for work in a variety of multi-disciplinary settings. The demographic that you will work with depends on the diploma stream that you choose: Child & Youth Care (CYC); Early Childhood Care & Education (Advanced Certificate - Inclusive Practice) (ECCE); Early Childhood Care & Education (Advanced Certificate - Infant & Toddler) (ECCE); Social Service Work (SSW). Practicum experience in community agencies develops your working knowledge of partnerships, hands-on training in the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, and employment opportunities within your client group. This program will lead you to enter a third year degree program.

1. One of:
    - High school graduation or equivalent
    - Minimum 19 years of age
      Note: If you are under the age of 19 and/or do not have a BC senior secondary school diploma or     
      equivalent, you must be enrolled in a secondary school transitions program, be enrolled in a program 
      under an agreement with the local school district, or have written consent from a parent or guardian and 
      letters of support from people who are familiar with your circumstances, such as a school principal or 
      health care provider.
2. English 12 (60%) or equivalent 


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Minimum 30 hour, paid or voluntary, work experience with appropriate groups (confirmed by two Human Services reference forms completed by supervisors at these work settings)
2. Current resume
3. Personal statement of interest (250 words) 
4. Proof of negative TB test or a clear chest x-ray that is less than 6 months old (if requested by the program's community partners) 
5. Current Criminal Record Check from the Ministry of Justice 
6. Attend an orientation session (which will be arranged by the program designate)

Additional Academic Admission Requirement


1.You may seek entry into the second year of a Human Services Diploma, If you have previously completed a Human Services certificate such as Education Assistant & Community Support Worker (EACSW), or Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) or Social Service Worker (SSW) or equivalent within the last 5 years.

2. If your certificate from the above-noted areas was completed more than five years ago, you are required to meet School Chair's approval and provide evidence of related work in Human Services field and/or professional development.

3. If you have 30 university transfer credits related to human services work, work experience in a related field, and the personal suitability requirements of the certificate programs, you will be considered for entry into the second year of a Human Services diploma on an individual basis.

4. Some types of criminal records may limit or prohibit acceptance in field placement. Acceptance into field placement is a requirement for program promotion.

Admission Advice

Applications may be submitted up to 12 months before the program start date, in September. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended.

International students are advised to apply well in advance to allow for appropriate time for Study Permit processing.
