The Bachelor's Degree in Social Work focuses on skills you need for a career as a generalist social work practitioner in various fields of practice, such as child welfare, mental health, addictions, women’s services, family justice, corrections, health and Indigenous people. The Bachelor of Social Work program has an orientation toward social justice, respect for diversity and social change. The program is designed to build on the educational achievements and experiences of a wide range of students.

Option A. For Applicants with General University Studies

1. Completion of at least 54 credits of post-secondary level transferable courses, including:

- Three credits of English Composition (ENGL 1100 at TRU) or six credits of English Literature
- Both SOCW 2060 and SOCW 2120, or equivalent courses

2. Minimum GPA of 2.33 (C+) on the last 24 credits completed.

OR

Option B. For Applicants with Combined Human Service Program and General University Courses

1. Completion of Human Service Worker Certificate or Diploma

2. Minimum GPA of 2.33 (C+) on the last 24 credits completed.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Submit BSW admissions package which includes a personal statement and experience summary (in addition submitting an online application form to TRU)
2. Criminal Record Check is needed to participate in work experience part of the program

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. As part of the admission process, you will be expected to supply an admission statement for you to talk about your ideas, experience and expectations about social work. Details about the admission statement will be provided to you after you submit your online application to TRU.

2. Entry to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program occur at Year 3. Admission to the program is limited. Priority for admission is based grade point average, related experience and your personal statement.

3. The School of Social Work recognizes that there are institutional processes and cultural differences which present barriers to some applicants in gaining equal access to programs. Because of the program's commitment to diversity, equality and social justice, 25% of the seats in the TRU BSW will be reserved each year for students from groups including, but not limited to, Aboriginal people, persons from minority groups, sexually and gender varied persons, and persons with disabilities.

Admission Advice

This is a Third-Year Entry program. 

Applications are open in October and close in January for the Fall (September) entry. 

Note: completed applications which are received before the application deadline may be considered for early review.

The supporting document deadline, including high school l and post-secondary transcripts, is the same date as the application deadline or within 10 days of submission of the application.
