The Bachelor of Arts in English involves the close study and analysis of complex texts. Themes ranging from composititon to Renaissance literature; from 17th, 18th, and 19th century studies to contemporary American and Canadian writing; and from Indigenous and postcolonial literature to studies in the emerging field of digital humanities. You can participate in co-op experience to support classroom learning and work experience related to your field of study.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Arts to pursue this program. 

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 or equivalent

3. Minimum six academic/ non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics & Computation
    - Second Languages 
    - Social Studies 
    - Visual and Performing Arts 
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. As a general admission requirement, one of English 11, English 12 or their equivalents is required. However, English 12 or equivalent is specified as a requirement into the program.

2. Students may declare a Major, Minor or Honours within the Bachelor of Arts degree. While coursework usually starts in the first-year, the Major can be declared at the end of second-year study at UBCV (after completing 54 undergraduate credits). Admission to the Honours program requires an application and department approval.
