The Bachelor of Music in General Studies is designed to provide a broad, flexible, general higher education in music, including private lessons on the instrument that you play best. You'll have the freedom to choose many elective courses, allowing continuation into various professional options, including graduate degrees. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for a variety of roles within the music industry.

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 and English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them)

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations or Math 12 or equivalent 

5. Any Science 11 or Science 12 course or equivalent 

6. A Language 11 or Waiver (includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)

7. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Second Languages 
    - Visual and Performing Arts 
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Complete a Personal Profile

2. Audition (in-person or video)

3. Two letters of reference

4. Three short-answer questions (150-250 words each):

    - What is your most significant musical experience?
    - What are your motivations and goals for pursuing a BMus degree?
    - Why are you interested in studying at UBC Music?

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. General Studies Majors may transfer to other Bachelor of Music Majors. To do this, GMUS Majors may: 
    - Audition for transfer to an advanced performance major at the end of both first and second year, with permission of the division
    - Apply for transfer to the composition major at the end of the first and second year (preferably having taken MUSC 107C)
    - Apply for transfer to the music scholarship major at the end of the second year.
