The Education Diploma in a First Nations Language and Culture is a teacher education program based on the design and the principles of the BEd program model. The program prepares you to teach an approved First Nations language and culture at the Elementary Years level.

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. One of:
     - Completion of the Diploma in First Nations Language 
     - Concurrently while completing the required First Nations Studies program, general academic coursework, and Bachelor of Education courses

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Documentation of a successful Criminal Records Check.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. You must be admitted to the program before beginning your professional education courses.

2. You are encouraged to identify your fluency in a specific language (Gitksanimx, Nisga'a, Skidegate Haida, Ts'msyen Sm'algyax or Carrier language) and your knowledge of Gitksan, Nisga'a, Ts'msyen or Carrier culture and history.

3. Advanced placement in language courses may be considered if you are able to demonstrate fluency in the language.

4. This program is offered sporadically by the UNBC's Education Department.

Admission Advice

Applications must be submitted by January for program entry in September.
