The Horticulture Crop Production and Protection Certificate provides you with a foundation to prepare you to enter the horticulture industry. The program emphasizes principles and practices of horticultural crop production, protection, and maintenance that are in line with sustainability, food security, and environmentally responsible agricultural production techniques. Upon graduation, you'll be qualified to seek work in greenhouses, nurseries, farms, garden centres, golf courses, and landscaping companies.

1. High school graduation or equivalent 
 
2. English 12 (C+) or equivalent or Degree/Diploma Level English Language proficiency

Academic Admission Requirement

1. The Agriculture Technology department will also consider applicants if they can demonstrate that they have a reasonable chance for success. Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio and/or be interviewed

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. This program has two intakes (program start dates) per year: September and January. If you would like to complete the program in two years, you should start in September. Students may enter this program in January. However, due to course scheduling and sequencing requirements, students starting in January may have to take some courses as a part-time student during an extra two semesters. Students should consult with the Agriculture department for more details.
 
2. In the absence of academic admission prerequisites, the Agriculture Technology department will also consider applicants if you can demonstrate a reasonable chance for success through a portfolio and/or interview.
 
3. Students are expected to be computer literate. This means knowing how to run programs from a Windows environment, and having basic internet, word processing, and spreadsheet skills. If you do not have these skills, you are advised to take an introductory computer course before they begin their studies in agriculture.
 
4. If you have allergies to dust, pollen or animal dander, you should be cautious of entering the program.
 
5. If you are a mature student without recent academic preparation, it is advised that you consult with the agriculture department about refresher courses in math, biology, etc. well before the program start date. UFV offers appropriate upgrading/qualifying courses.

Admission Advice

Applications should be submitted as soon as possible after the first day to apply. Once applications are complete (all required documents have been received), an application date is recorded. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
