The Bachelor of Social Work Degree will allow you to make a difference in your community. This program nurtures accountable and critically engaged social work education, research and practice in the advancement of decolonization, anti-racism, Indigenous resurgence, feminism, 2SLGBTQ+ liberation struggles, disability justice and other social justice struggles.

High school students and graduates can apply to the Faculty of Social Sciences (Undeclared) and transfer into this program after two or more years of study at UVic. 

For entrance into the Faculty of Social Sciences, the admission requiremens are:

1. Grade 11 courses:

- Approved English 11
- Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11
- Approved science 11
- Approved social studies 11/12

2. Grade 12 courses

- English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (minimum 67%)
- Three approved academic 12 courses


To transfer into the Bachelor of Social Work program, the admission requirements are:

1. One of:
- Completion of the first two years (30 UVic units or 20 courses) of an undergraduate program at UVic (B- or 3.5 GPA)
- Equivalent GPA at another university or community college on the last 12 unit of university-transferable course work. 

Note: This work must include: SOCW 200A and 200B or equivalent.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. At UVic, the value of courses is given in units. Most courses at UVic that run for one term count for 1.5 units per course. For example, 3 UVic units are equivalent to two (half-year) courses or 6 credits at most BC colleges and universities.

2. If you are transferring from a university or college in British Columbia, you can look-up your potential transfer credits using the BC Transfer Guide. 
3. Official transcripts, UVic Undergraduate Admissions applications, Undergraduate Records Program Change, or Re-registration forms must be received by the January 31st document deadline.

4. The initial screening process for admission will be based on sufficient number of courses/units and grade point average as stated above. You will then be evaluated for admission based on your grade point average, and a written submission.

5. The number of students admitted will depend on the resources available to the School and the number of qualified applicants.

Admission Advice

Applications are open for the Bachelor of Social Work program in December of each year. Applications (including all supporting documents) must be submitted by January 31 for program entry in September. Earlier application is recommended.
