The Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) Degree builds on existing diploma programs in Recreation and Sport Management, Tourism Studies and Hospitality Management that stress career-entry skills. The program provides applied skills and concepts related to the design of tourism products and management of tourism services. Focus is on the development of management and entrepreneurial skills needed to assume greater responsibilities within an organization, or for those wishing to start new enterprises.

Option A. Year One

1. High school graduation (or equivalent) with English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (C) or equivalent
    - A university degree
    - Be a visiting student from a college or university (a “Letter of Permission” from home institution required)
    - Be a transfer student from a college or university with at least 24 university transfer credits
    - Mature student status (be at least 21 years old in your first semester) and English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (C) or equivalent

Note: If you don't meet any of the admission categories, you may be admitted as an "Unclassified Student" to register into university-level courses which you meet the prerequisites. You will register after other students, so course availability will be limited.


Option B. Year Three
1. One of:

    - VIU diploma in Recreation and Sport Management, Tourism Studies, or Hospitality Management
    - Permission of the department (based on appropriate course work)


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check may be required for students entering the program in year-one before participating in the field work portion of the program.
2. All new students must participate in an orientation session early in the Fall semester.
3. Entry to this program is limited. Meeting or exceeding the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to this Program.
4. Students admitted to the degree can exit after year 2 and apply for a diploma in Tourism Studies or Recreation and Sport Management. 


Admission Advice

Applications are accepted for September entry until July 31 for domestic students, and until June 30 for international students. Early application is recommended.
