Overview

The Motion Picture Set Construction micro-credential focuses on fundamental design, planning and construction skills and starting a career as a carpentry and set construction crew member. Training encompasses an orientation to the film industry and workplace requirements, essentials of worksite safety, communications, key terminology, interdepartmental relations and protocols, roles and expectations, specialty tool requirements and usage, unique attributes of set construction materials and handling, and the fundamentals of set planning, design, construction, and takedown. In an applied setting, students will construct a mock set following the key phases of film and television set construction. This program provides an introduction to the role of the set construction and carpentry crew specific to film production. The carpentry and set construction crew is responsible for designing, planning, constructing, and take down each set.
