In the Teacher Education Secondary Curriculum Post-Degree Professional Program Bachelor of Education Degree, you'll learn how you can motivate secondary school students to find deeper meaning from the world. After completion of all coursework and a mandatory practicum, you will receive a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) and will be eligible to apply for a BC teaching certificate.

Admission to this BEd program is restricted to students with a previous degree and who are enrolled in the Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education. 

1. Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited university

2. Completion of 3 units (equivalent to two courses) of approved university-level English courses or equivalent

3. Competency in written English competency, with C+ or higher in each of the two approved English courses.

4. Approved studies in one or two teachable subject areas with a grade-point average of at least 4.00 on a 9-point scale (equivalent to UVic’s 'B-' grade) on the 300 and/or 400-level courses needed for each teachable area.

5. Most recent 30 units attempted to December 31 (equivalent to 20 half-year courses) (C+ or 3.0 GPA) 

6. Most recent session/term (C+ or 3.0 GPA). If your most recent session is less than 12.0 units, you must have a grade-point average of at least 3.00 (equivalent to UVic’s C+ grade) on your most recent consecutive 12.0 units.

Notes:
- You may be able to apply with one teachable subject area but your job prospects may be improved if you have more than one area of specialization
At UVIC, the value of courses is given in units. Most courses at UVic that run for one term count for 1.5 units per course. For example, 3 UVIC units are equivalent to two (half-year) courses or 6 credits at most BC colleges and universities

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Minimum 50 hours of practical experience working with groups of children or youth at the age level you wish to teach Kindergarten to Grade 12

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. All course and grade requirements must be completed by April for entry in September of the same year.

2. This program is for those who wish to teach one or two of the following subjects in a secondary school: art, biology, chemistry, computer science, English, French, general science, mathematics, music, physical and health education, physics, social studies, Spanish, teaching innovation in education, theatre.

Applications must be submitted by the following dates for September program entry:		
		
- January 2: online application along with the Summary of Experience and Reflection on Experience:  			
- January 31: first transcript showing grades for courses attempted to December 31, and if applicable, course registration for the period from January to April 30.			
- May 31: final transcript showing grades for all courses attempted to April 30.
